Question one _ updated
Dear youth media
I would be over whelmed to take the opportunity and design
your new youth media news channel, as I believe I know all the qualities needed
to make it successful and attract the teenage audience.
My research was on two separate news broadcasts, the first
being “BBC news at six” and the other being “News round” .To begin with I am going
to discuss the representation in which both channels give away. BBC news at 6
is aimed at the middle working class A-C bracket of both sexes, as its studio
design is simplistic with the use of plain colours such as black and white and
red. Also the studio uses minimal accessories which appeals to the middle
working class as there are minor distractions which allows the audience to
remain focused on the news presenters allowing them to take in the full news story. Therefore I realised that because the viewers are focused on the news presenters it gives away the idea of representation and reveals that the BBC is a serious news channel rather than entertainment based. The camera angle also used within the broadcast are full pan zooms of the studio or head shot angles of the presenters sat behind the desk, these angles are very simplistic and allow their to be only one main focus during the broadcast and in BBC case it being the presenters, However if we now analyse News round representation is used completely different due to its colouring scheme being bright and bold and its studio design being modern and complicated which gives away the representation idea that this news channel is aimed at younger children and consists of soft news rather than hard news. Also with news-round a wide variety of camera angles are used during the broadcast to make the news seem more like a fun based television programme rather than a serious which would keep the attention of the young target audience.
Another aspect I analysed was the type of news stories that both broadcast, to begin with BBC news at six focused on hard news such as war, death and crime and only a small amount of the broadcast time was spent on soft news stories focusing on celebrities ect. BBC news includes mainly hard news stories due to their target audience being working class adults and their showing time being early evening, and also due to their audience watching the news to discover world happenings even if they are based around negativity and continuity. However when viewing newsround the news stories broadcast were all mainly soft news and when stories on war/death/crime were broadcast they were simplified and presented by the presenters in a way which would make the young target audience not feel scared or worried towards the negative world events. Also news round does also base a large majority of its stories around personalisation and soft news topics discussing animals and celebrities.
I am now going to discuss a various amount of differences in which I noticed whilst analysing both news channels; to begin with BBC news at 6 broadcast most of its stories in a bias tone through a mixture of vox pops and global interviews, this allows the news to be watched by their target audience and to allow their views to change due to how the presenters present it. Where as news round is un-bias and uses only vox pops so that their young target audience are to led to change their view. I also analysed the presenters as I realised the BBC presenters were of both sexes and dressed in suits and had a serious expression throughout the show, this revealed the seriousness of of the news broadcast aiming it at the older mature working class adults, More over news round uses only one presenter at a time who is sat causally upon a sofa or on Mondays the presenter is disabled which represents diversity to the young audience.
